Report: Russia leads by info removal requests to Google in 2016
MOSCOW, Jul 21 (PRIME) -- Russia led in 2016 by the number of requests to Google to remove information with more than 13,000 applications as compared to 9,000 sent by all the other countries, RBC reported on its Web site on Friday, citing the company’s Transparency Report .
The country’s state authorities, law enforcement entities, and police sent 13,209 requests in 2016, up 478% on the year. Of the total, 85% of requests were for national security reasons, 5% for government criticism, and 2% for suicide promotion.
Google satisfied 74% of requests, and the mentioned resources were blocked or deleted.
Among samples of the content asked for removal were data about Islamic State, which is banned in the country, and links to preparation of drugs and explosives, among others.
